How can we create an experience from events kept in recent memory? This is the beginning of a project that attempts to answer that question through an interactive installation. We thought we could create an experience that revolved around the creation of memory objects, in this case a ball. Users would be able to record a memory in sound the moment they grabbed the ball and end the recording the moment they let go of it. Memories would start looping upon release and become gradually distorted on every bounce.
Light in the memory object signals the presence of a new stored memory. Every time the object bounces off the ground or comes in contact with another object the light changes color, indicating the original memory has been altered. Memories would continue to be distorted until their repeating whisper gradually fades away.
Reminiscent-Prototypes Sound Concept:
Gradual sound distortion on every bounce of memory object. Pitch is shifted randomly up or down on first contact, and then pitch is further altered on every new instance, depending on the direction of pitch change.
Original vision of experience interaction. Audience lights up memory objects and records sound when in contact with them. Sounds merge in symphony with other user memories, changing in sight and sound with every touch.
